Our food security programs
Our food security programs aim to ensure everyone has access to sufficient, healthy and culturally appropriate food.
SO WE CAN ALL EAT
Food Security in Canada
According to the Government of Canada, food insecurity is defined as “the inability to acquire or consume an adequate diet quality or sufficient quantity of food in socially acceptable ways, or the uncertainty that one will be able to do so.” Over 4 million Canadians are food insecure, including 1.15 million children. Food insecurity is foremost linked to financial insecurity.

Share the Warmth’s food programs: tackling food insecurity in the Sud-Ouest and Verdun
Many individuals and families living in Montréal’s Sud-Ouest and Verdun boroughs struggle to put healthy food on the table. We believe solving the hunger equation involves much more than a quick fix. All our programs are designed to give people the chance to learn about, and have access to, good food and information to strengthen their food autonomy.
Our food programs: building a stronger, healthier community
In 2018, Share the Warmth adopted its Healthy Food Philosophy. This philosophy recognizes food as an essential part of life, necessary in maintaining a healthy body and mind. As such, we work hard to provide, to the best of our ability, food that is fresh, locally made or grown, minimally processed, seasonal, and nutritious. We are equally committed to promoting the importance of healthy eating, the pleasure and ability of making one’s own food choices and to consume foods we enjoy.
