About the Food Bank

Share the Warmth aims to increase access to sufficient, healthy and culturally appropriate food because it is an essential part of any community. The Food Bank provides a four- to five-day supply of food, once per month, to residents of the Sud-Ouest and Verdun boroughs who are trying to make ends meet.

The food bank follows a choice-based model. This provides individuals with the ability to choose culturally appropriate food in quantities that suit their needs and the needs of their families.

Access to the food bank is free. We do, however, offer a market area where you can buy basic foods such as fruit and vegetables, eggs and milk at low cost.

Impact

  • 3x times more people served at our food bank before the pandemic
  • 2,500 people rely on our food bank each month, 30% of whom are under the age of 18.
  • 832 deliveries were made to people with reduced mobility.
  • 1,312 new members have registered with our food bank over the past year.

For more information, please contact Bianca at 514-933-5599 (ext. 231) or by email: info@sharethewarmth.ca.

The market area is open to food bank members only. It makes basic foods such as fruit and vegetables, eggs and milk available at low cost.

The market area is open every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. There is no maximum number of visits per month for the Market Area.

You must be registered with the food bank to use the market area.

Get more bang for your buck!

Financial donations have a greater impact on fighting hunger in our community. Through bulk purchasing and reduced rates, every $10 you donate allows us to buy $30 worth of food! Additionally, through conscious purchasing, we aim to provide fresh, healthy and minimally processed food for our members.

Food Donations

Donations of non-perishable foods are greatly appreciated.

Our largest food drive – Share the Holiday Spirit – takes place during the holiday season. Companies, schools and community members make teams and buy “virtual food boxes” and collect non-perishable food to support our food security programs. These donations will help stock the food bank for the year ahead.

If you would like to organize a food drive, please contact Bianca at (514) 933-5599 (ext. 231) or by email at info@sharethewarmth.ca
